  • How do I know if a therapist is a good fit for me?

When searching for a therapist, it's crucial to find someone who you feel comfortable with and can connect with. One way to determine if a therapist is a good fit for you is to trust your intuition - if you feel a positive connection, that's a good sign. Additionally, you can research therapists who specialize in the issues you want to address in therapy. For parents seeking therapy for their teens, it's important to involve your teen in the decision-making process and allow them to have a say in choosing their therapist. Ultimately, the decision is yours, and you deserve to choose a therapist who you feel comfortable with.

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

We take all major credit cards, check and cash.

  • What do I do if I am thinking of harming myself or someone else?

Call 911. There is no judgement. You deserve to receive assistance and most importantly, you deserve to live. There are several resources that 911 can quickly and most appropriately connect you with.

  • Where is your main office?

  • What are the treatment options for mental health concerns?

There are many options and levels of care for those suffering from mental health concerns. Many people are fearful seeking care automatically means acute inpatient treatment, and that is not the case. There are outpatient services, such as seeing a private practice or agency therapist as well as outpatient medication management services. For those needing a higher frequency of care, there are intensive outpatient programs and partial hospitalization programs available. For those that need consistent monitoring, acute inpatient treatment may be the most appropriate option. Connecting with a therapist can allow you and your treatment team to determine the most effective treatment for your individual need.

  • What if I don’t like my therapist?

Many people are weary of attempting to seek therapy services for fear of how to handle the situation if they do not connect with their therapist. It is ok to have this discussion with your therapist. The therapeutic relationship is a key factor in your journey. The first therapist you meet with may not be the best fit for you, and that is ok. As a therapist, I am honored by my clients that feel comfortable enough to allow me on their journey, and I am equally honored by those clients that are being true to themselves and their needs and choose to attempt to connect with a therapist they feel more comfortable with.

  • What is your goal in a counseling session?

In a counseling session, our ultimate goal is to address the root causes of the issues that have brought you to therapy, in order to achieve lasting change. Through counseling, we can work together to identify effective ways to express and communicate those emotions in a safe and non-judgmental environment. During counseling sessions, you will have the opportunity to let your guard down, speak freely without fear of judgment, and learn strategies for overcoming your issues.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations and re-scheduled sessions will be subject to a full charge of $75.00 if NOT RECEIVED AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time.

  • How do I prepare for a counseling session?

You are strongly encouraged to bring a list (or make a mental list) of the important or big subjects you want to dig into, share, or get feedback on. This can be anything that happens between sessions, stuff that has popped up from your past, things that weigh on you or you think about often, experiences or thoughts that have come up from homework, or things you have been working on in sessions. We put as much effort into your work as you do and encourage you to come prepared.

  • Will my session be in person or virtual?

Virtual AND in-person services are offered at this time.

  • Do you use gender affirming and trauma informed care?

YES! Lindsey Hightower Counseling is committed to serving every population and to advocating for the importance of gender affirming and trauma informed care to be used across all care settings. If you have any questions about how gender affirming and trauma informed practices are used, please contact Lindsey Hightower Counseling.
